Life is Tough

IF ANYONE TELLS YOU that God will never give you more than you can handle, kindly suggest they read their Bible again.

God only promises to never give us more temptation to sin than we can withstand, but life is a constant Rinse and Repeat of struggles that are more than we can handle. 1 Corinthians 10:13

While trying to handle your problems, you will be a little less crazy when you can acknowledge that you are not able to control every circumstance.

And to think otherwise will lead you right into a padded cell.

If you don’t believe me, take a look at the Christians around you and see how well their lives are not working for them. Do you know anyone without problems?

Oh yes, you say, because so-and-so has a perfect life and they aren’t suffering as you are.

Well I’ve got news for you.

The perfect life is impossible, and I’m not talking about being perfectly able to avoid the temptation to your favorite sin. Everyone you know, even the most righteous, who seems to have the good life, lives in a body that is dying.

And they can do nothing to stop this reality.

Everyone you know has relationships that aren’t perfect and they are limited in their ability to make those relationships right.

Everyone you know, even those who have the so-called perfect life—with power, possessions, people, purpose and prestige—find themselves in situations that are beyond their ability to control.

You were not so special that you should have been entitled to a perfect life.

Nor were you so unloved, stupid, or bad, that God singled you out for more than you can handle. If you believe otherwise, you have bad information.

You were, however, given more than you can handle for a reason.

Please forgive the church lady for being so candid, but you’re full of yourself and you need to know it right now, whether you’re in a circumstance you can’t handle or you’re headed that way.

You see, when you’re full of yourself, there’s no room for anyone else. When you’re full of yourself, you are all alone, like a grasshopper standing in front of a giant.

If you believe you should be able to handle your problems, you cannot ask for help. And worse, if you believe God only helps those who help themselves, you’ll miss the best opportunity you have to prove whoever taught you that lie to be absolutely wrong.

So, throw your hands up and admit the truth: This is more than I can handle. I need help.

And whether you know God or not, speak to him as if he had the power to do something: This time my problem looks too big for you and I honestly have no faith in you, but I need a way out. Please help me.

It is a humbling experience, being human, and humbling experiences are painful.

But there’s always something magical that happens when we reach out to people and to God for help. The pain of humiliation, shame, and guilt is always followed by the keenest sense of being loved.

It is for this experience of being loved that we were given the problem we could not handle.

And having felt the security of being loved, especially when we did not deserve it, and could not earn it, we are a little less full of ourselves.

Don’t believe for one minute that your problem came only so that you could experience amazing love, because there’s another purpose.

It will show up right around the corner when God puts you in the path of a person who needs your help, and you will see yourself as you were. When you had little or no faith.

Now it’s your turn to demonstrate love.

'For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me,I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’

Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you?And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’

And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.' Matthew 25:35-40 (ESV)

John 16:332 Corinthians 1:8-9Romans 8:371 John 5:4Psalm 129:2
